Your rides are yours
Cadenza has no accounts and no servers that receive your rides. We don't sell, rent or share your data with anyone, and there are no ads or analytics in the app or on this website.
Summary
What the app uses
The app uses the following, and keeps it in its own storage on your phone:
- Location. Your position, speed and altitude from the phone's GPS, to show you on the map and to record a ride's route, distance, speed and climbing.
- Sensor readings. Cadence, power, heart rate and wheel speed from the Bluetooth sensors you connect.
- Compass. The phone's motion sensors, while the map is on screen, to show which way you're facing. These readings aren't recorded.
- Rides. Each recorded ride: one reading per second of the values above, plus when you paused. Rides are saved as files on the phone, and as .FIT files when you share or upload one.
- Your sensors and settings. The names and Bluetooth addresses of sensors you've paired, so they reconnect next time, and your settings such as units and wheel size.
None of this is sent to us. It only leaves your phone when you upload a ride to Strava or share a ride file yourself.
Phone permissions
- Location, while you use the app. While a ride is recording, Cadenza keeps using location with the screen off or the app in the background; Android shows a "Recording ride" notification for as long as it does.
- Bluetooth, to find and connect to your sensors. Cadenza doesn't use Bluetooth to work out where you are.
- Notifications, for the recording notification.
- Internet, for the map and for Strava.
Strava
Connecting Strava is optional. When you connect, you sign in on Strava's own page and allow Cadenza to upload activities and to read your basic profile. Cadenza then keeps:
- the access keys Strava issues, in your phone's secure storage, used only to upload your rides;
- your name from Strava, to show who's connected.
A ride is uploaded when you tap Upload, or automatically when you finish if you turned that on. The upload goes straight from your phone to Strava, and what happens to it there is covered by Strava's privacy policy.
Disconnecting in Cadenza's settings asks Strava to revoke the access and deletes the keys from your phone. You can also revoke it on Strava, under My Apps.
The map
The map's streets, labels and icons are downloaded from maps.cadenza-cycling.com, which is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address and which part of the map is being looked at to Cloudflare, which delivers the files under its privacy policy. We don't keep logs of these requests, and they don't identify you to us.
Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, with map tiles from Protomaps.
This website
cadenza-cycling.com uses no cookies, analytics or tracking, and loads its fonts and icons from this site rather than from third parties. It's hosted on Cloudflare, which handles the requests your browser makes. If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply.
What we don't do
Keeping and deleting data
Rides, sensors and settings stay on your phone until you remove them. Uninstalling Cadenza, or clearing its storage in your phone's settings, deletes all of it, including the Strava keys. Rides you've uploaded to Strava stay there until you delete them on Strava.
Because we don't hold your data, there's nothing for us to export or erase on our side; if you have a question about it, email us.
Children
Cadenza isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
